Why rebuild?
I offer my rebuilding service to make a better, affordably priced option to new. In most cases I can repack your battery to output more current for a longer amount of time vs stock. My favorite to explain this with is the classic m18 5.0. Ever use it in something higher demand such as a leaf blower and in 10 minutes it is dead already. But come back 10 minutes later it has 2 bars left. When I repack it into a 5.4 It will run 20 minutes and be completely dead afterward. That is because the repacked one is sustainable of much higher output current giving you more power and lasting longer than the stock 5.0. This also leads to a longer lifespan. I can do this in multiple cases. I strive to repack them to be better than stock at an affordable price.
Causes of failure for M18s?
Their are quite a few causes of the dreaded flashing red and green lights. Most commonly it is a low series bank of cells. An m18 has 5 series banks that are independent, the chargers charge off of pack voltage and can not fix a low bank of cells. After some time of the banks of cells continues to get lower, it damages the cells and the cells around them, eventually leading it the cells getting to low before the next charge. Then the charger will not function. Depending on the levels of usage, if you get 6+ years out of a pack your doing pretty good. Its best not to charge right after taking it right off a tool, Give it time to rest and cool. Also the standard charger is always the best, it creates less heat increasing the lifespan. Balancing them every year will also increase the lifespan, for a fractions of the cost of a full rebuild.

What is rebalancing?
Rebalancing is most often done with the m18 and m12 lineup. It involved decasing the battery inspecting for broken connections, then making all the cell groups the same voltage. It is the weakest spot of the m18 charging system, as other brands do it every time while on the charger. Having it done every 3-400 cycles or every 16-24 months will increase the life and output of the battery.
